A Unique Underwater Trash The Dress in a Mexican Cenote
Wedding, Honeymoon & Trash the Dress — All in One Magical Destination
The Riviera Maya, Mexico continues to grow in popularity as a destination wedding spot—and for good reason. With its breathtaking cenotes, tropical beaches, romantic resorts, and affordable packages, couples can celebrate their wedding, enjoy their honeymoon, and capture it all with a unique Trash the Dress photoshoot—just like this underwater session I created with Philip and Sonja.
They chose to celebrate their big day with a destination wedding surrounded by close family and friends. After finding some of my dreamy underwater Trash the Dress portraits, we connected and planned their session just two days after their wedding celebration.

Sonja & Philip's Trash the Dress Experience
Sonja and Philip were excited to do something out of the ordinary. They wanted to celebrate their connection underwater, surrounded by the raw beauty of the cenote, and wear their wedding look in a setting that felt magical and surreal.
The result is a breathtaking gallery of underwater images—filled with movement, intimacy, and emotion—where we can perfectly perceive their love and adventurous spirit.

What Is a Trash the Dress Session?
The name “Trash the Dress” might sound dramatic—but don’t worry, it’s far from destructive! In fact, I like to call it “Wash the Dress” because it’s a celebration of your wedding attire in a playful, artistic, and adventurous way.
Why Do a Trash the Dress Photoshoot?
This type of session offers more than just beautiful images—it’s an experience. Here are a few reasons couples love it:
A fun and meaningful activity to enjoy together as newlyweds
A unique adventure to start your marriage with unforgettable memories
A creative way to reuse your wedding attire
The chance to explore epic, unconventional locations like cenotes
Breathtaking photos that tell your love story in a truly one-of-a-kind way
Frequently Asked Questions About Trash the Dress Photoshoots
Will my wedding dress be too heavy or hard to manage underwater?
That depends on the design and weight of your dress, but don’t worry—I’ve thought of everything to keep you comfortable and safe.
My safety assistant will gently tow you around the cenote using a floating ring, and we typically shoot in shallow water or near rocks where you can hold on and take breaks. I’ll always be just a few feet away, and my assistant will stay right beside us to intervene immediately if needed.
Safety and comfort are always the top priority in my underwater sessions.
Will my wedding dress get ruined after the underwater shoot?
Not at all! In fact, the crystal-clear freshwater of the cenote is very gentle on fabric. That’s why I like to call it a “Wash the Dress” shoot, not “Trash” it!
Bad weather affect cenote photoshoot?
Nope! All my underwater photoshoots are great year-round, rain or shine. Since we’ll be submerged, weather above the water typically has little to no effect on the experience.
Do I need to wear full makeup for this Underwater Session?
For underwater photoshoots, there’s no pressure to wear a full face of makeup—the choice is entirely yours. If you prefer a touch of enhancement, check out my blog post: Underwater Photoshoot Makeup Tips, where I share the best options for waterproof and natural-looking makeup underwater.
Can I do a Trash the Dress photoshoot by myself?
Absolutely! While many couples choose to do this session together, it’s also a beautiful solo experience. Whether you’re newly married or just want to celebrate yourself in a unique way, a solo underwater bridal shoot is equally powerful and unforgettable.
Personalize Your Underwater Trash the Dress Photoshoot
An underwater Trash the Dress photoshoot is more than just beautiful imagery—it’s a chance to reflect your unique story, personality, or shared memories as a couple.
You’re welcome to bring personal props that add meaning to your session. For example, the couple featured in the video brought a bicycle, flowers, and rose petals to create a dreamy, romantic vibe that felt true to them.

If you're looking to create your own magical underwater images, whether it's a Trash the Dress, a couple's session, or an engagement photoshoot, I would be thrilled to bring your vision to life. Besides my underwater sessions, I also offer optional jungle photgraphy sessions near the cenote—an incredible setting that beautifully complements your experience.
