How to Book an Underwater Photoshoot in a Cenote | Riviera Maya Guide
I’ll guide you through the entire process of booking your underwater photoshoot
Inspired by an Underwater Portrait? Here’s How to Get Started
Picture this: You’re scrolling through Instagram when you come across one of my underwater portraits. Everything is magical—a dreamy figure floating effortlessly in crystal-clear water, surrounded by light and serenity. Your first thought? “This must be a professional model who’s been doing this for years.”
But then you realize… It’s not a model at all. It’s someone just like you—a client who decided to take the leap, book a shoot, and show up for the experience. How did they do it? you wonder. It looks so effortless, yet so extraordinary. And now, all you can think is: “I want that.”
So… what’s next? Don’t worry—I’ll guide you through the entire process of booking your underwater photoshoot.
If you already have a trip planned to my corner of the world, you can skip the next section. But if you’re still in the planning stages, here’s what you need to know:
Where Is the Cenote for the Underwater Photoshoot?
I’m located in Riviera Maya, a stunning part of the world that’s absolutely worth visiting—not just for a dreamy underwater photoshoot, but for its pristine Caribbean beaches, fascinating archaeological sites, and so much more.
Best Places to Stay Near Playa del Carmen & Tulum for a Cenote Photoshoot
My favorite cenote is located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, so if you’d like to stay close to the cenote, I recommend looking for accommodations in this area.
Many of my clients also stay in Cancun, which is just an hour away.
If you’re considering Playa del Carmen, I have a brand-new, cozy two-person apartment, Casa Guapita, available for rent. Check out the full listing here.
What Makes Cenote Cristalino Ideal for Underwater Photoshoots?
While there are many cenotes in the Riviera Maya, I choose this cenote called Cristalino for its crystal-clear waters, beautiful rock formations, mangroves, and shallow areas. It’s not too deep and always has rocks or ledges to hold onto, making it ideal even if you're not a confident swimmer. The cenote is worth visiting on its own. Feel free to bring friends and family along to enjoy its natural beauty!

FAQs: Preparing for Your Underwater Experience
Now that your shoot is locked in, it’s time to prepare for an unforgettable experience! Below, I’ve answered the most frequently asked questions to help you get ready:
Do I Need to Know How to Swim?
Swimming experience helps, but it's not essential. You'll be supported throughout the session:
A safety assistant will be by your side at all times.
You'll be towed with a floating ring between shooting spots.
We stay in shallow areas or near stable rocks.
How Deep Is the Cenote?
Cenote Cristalino's deepest point is about 19 feet, but we mostly use shallow, accessible areas for comfort and safety. This is a perfect cenote for non-swimmers to experience one of my sessions!
Do I Need to Hold My Breath for Long?
Nope! Most shots only require a few seconds underwater. We’ll work within your comfort level to make the experience enjoyable and stress-free.
What Should I Wear for an Underwater Photoshoot?
Yes! I provide a curated collection of dresses, skirts, and flowing fabrics that photograph beautifully underwater.
Additional options for rent:
Flying dresses (5-meter-long flowing gowns)
Mermaid tails for a whimsical twist
Angel wing - To enhance your jungle shoot
You’re welcome to bring your own! Flowy and colorful fabrics work amazingly, or if you prefer, you can wear a swimsuit and combine it with one of my fabrics. Check out my blog post: Underwater Photoshoot Outfit Ideas for more tips.
What to pack: Whether you choose to borrow from my collection or bring your own clothes, don’t forget to pack lingerie or a swimsuit to wear underneath.
